In the back of the old sugar factory, we can find one of the Old Sugar Mill’s staples, Three Wine Company. Founded in 2006 by Matt Cline and his wife Erin, this family winery focus on sustainable grape-growing practices, and combined it with experienced hands in their winemaking process. They also are passionate about the historical varietals of California, such as Zinfandel, Mataro, and Carignane.
It was still summer when I went with some friends, and we enjoyed the beautiful outdoor setup they had in the backyard surrounded by orange bricks and green grass. On their website, they mentioned that when you visit you get a sense of intimacy with the business, and that is totally true. The service was outstanding! That day Lamar took care of us and his service was great, he was funny and very knowledgeable. Bonus: at the end of our tasting he took us backstage where all the winemaking magic happens.
Their tasting menu consists of 9 wines and you get to pick 4 for $10. All of their wines are great, but here are my 4 choices:
2017 Escapade, California: This is a white blend of Chardonnay, Riesling, and Albariño. It is a sweet wine, but very delicate and balanced. It has aromas of tropical fruit, such as papaya, mango, and cantaloupe. And it tastes like apricots, apples, nectarine, and a hint of honey.
2018 Old Vines Rosé, Contra Costa: This is a blend of Carignane, Mataro, and Zinfandel. I love dry rosés and this one is not the exception. It is refreshing and well balanced, whit hints of berries and floral on the nose, and hints of strawberry, cranberries, cherry, and pomegranate on the palate. Delightful!
2015 Zinfandel Bigelow, Contra Costa: I am obsessed with Zins, it is probably my favorite grape. So, wherever Zin is offered, I have to try it! This fruit-forward wine has hints of berries, oak, spice, and jam in the nose. It is also distinctively floral in the nose, I loved it. On the palate has a nice mix of dark fruits and chocolate. Very yummy!
2013 Established 1885, Contra Costa: This is a red blend of Evangelho Zinfandel, Lucchesi Carignane, and Spinelli Mataro, predominantly. On the nose, it has notes of berries, cherry, jam, and oak. On the palate, it has notes of dark fruits, plum, cherry, and pepper. It is chewie and very tasty.
Last but not least, I want to highlight their 2018 Chardonnay, Clarksburg. This wine is lovely, creamy, with flavors and scents of tropical fruits. Is very refreshing. The winery does a paella party every year when releasing this wine, and the label honored the event. It is very picturesque!

En la parte trasera de la antigua fábrica de azúcar, podemos encontrar una de las bodegas icónicas de Old Sugar Mill, Three Wine Company. Fundada en 2006 por Matt Cline y su esposa Erin, esta bodega familiar se enfoca en prácticas de cultivo sostenible y las combina con manos experimentadas en su proceso de vinificación. También son apasionados por las variedades históricas de California, como Zinfandel, Mataro y Carignane.
Todavía era verano cuando fui con algunos amigos, y disfrutamos de su hermoso espacio al aire libre que tenían en el patio trasero, rodeados de ladrillos naranjas y pasto verde. En su sitio web, Three Wine Company menciona que cuando visitas tienes una sensación de intimidad con el negocio, y eso es totalmente cierto. ¡El servicio fue excelente! Ese día Lamar nos atendió y su servicio fue excelente, fue divertido y son mucho conocimiento de sus vinos. Bono: al final de nuestra degustación, nos llevó detrás del escenario donde ocurre toda la magia de la elaboración del vino.

Escapade 2017, California: es una mezcla de Chardonnay, Riesling y Albariño. Es un vino dulce, pero muy delicado y equilibrado. Tiene aromas de frutas tropicales, como papaya, mango y melón. Y sabe a albaricoques, manzanas, nectarina y un toque de miel.
2018 Old Vines Rosé, Contra Costa: esta es una mezcla de Carignane, Mataro y Zinfandel. Me encantan los rosados secos y este no es la excepción. Es refrescante y equilibrado, con notas de frutos del bosque y florales en la nariz, y notas de fresa, arándano, cereza y granada en el paladar. ¡Encantador!
2015 Zinfandel Bigelow, Contra Costa: Estoy obsesionada con Zins, probablemente sea mi uva favorita. Entonces, donde sea que se ofrezca Zin, ¡tengo que probarlo! Este vino frutal tiene toques de frutos del bosque, roble, especias y mermelada en la nariz. También es distintivamente floral en la nariz, me encantó. En la boca tiene una agradable mezcla de frutos negros y chocolate. ¡Muy rico!
2013 Established 1885, Contra Costa: se trata de una mezcla de Evangelho Zinfandel, Lucchesi Carignane y Spinelli Mataro, predominantemente. En la nariz tiene notas de frutos del bosque, cereza, mermelada y roble. En el paladar tiene notas de frutos negros, ciruela, cereza y pimienta. Es masticable y muy sabroso.
Por último, pero no menos importante, quiero destacar su Chardonnay 2018, Clarksburg. Este vino es encantador, cremoso, con sabores y aromas de frutas tropicales. Es muy refrescante. La bodega hace una fiesta de paella todos los años al sacar este vino, y la etiqueta hace homenaje al evento. ¡Es muy pintoresca!
